HODGDON – Rita M. Benn, 84, died July 21, 2013, at a local health care facility. She was born Aug. 27, 1928, in Houlton, daughter of Frank and Clara (McCluskey) McAtee.
Rita attended Hodgdon schools and graduated from Hodgdon High School where she played basketball. She was a communicant of Saint Mary of the Visitation Church and member of Houlton Council of Catholic Women. Rita was employed with New England Telephone Company at the Houlton office and then with Plaza Pharmacy, she also took care of the day to day bookkeeping for her husband Cedric’s business, Benn’s Auto Sales. In her spare time Rita enjoyed cooking, knitting and making quilts.
She is survived by two sons, John and wife, Brittany, of Hodgdon, and Timothy and wife, Kelly, of Dedham; two daughters, Dorothy Palmer and husband, Kent, of Winterport and Patricia Donovan and husband, Randy, of Lewiston; sister, Ruth McGilicuddy of Houlton; sister-in-law, Helen Hagan of Houlton; ten grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Cedric; son, Larry; grandson, Mark; and sisters, Isabelle Fitzpatrick and Virginia Smith.
Friends may call 11 a.m. until time of departure for services Wednesday at Dunn Funeral Home. A service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, at Saint Mary of the Visitation Church.
