BANGOR, Maine — Cross Insurance, a subsidiary of Bangor-based Cross Financial Corp., on Wednesday announced the opening of its first office in Rhode Island.

The company, founded in Bangor in 1954, opened its new office in East Providence, R.I. It is the company’s 30th office in New England.

“This new office is designed to better serve the needs of our existing Rhode Island clients while also opening the doors wide open for new ones as well,” said Royce Cross, CEO of Cross Insurance, in a press release. “The attractiveness of the state, coupled with the potential for further growth, made this decision an easy one.”

Cross Insurance has tapped Gary Heaslip, a 26-year industry veteran who was formerly with a Cross Insurance subsidiary in Wakefield, Mass., to take charge of the new office, which is located at 855 Waterman Avenue, Suite A, in East Providence. Heaslip’s new title will be president of Cross Insurance — Rhode Island.

The insurance company currently has 500 employees, and claims to be one of the largest independent insurance providers in New England.
