GORHAM and PRESQUE ISLE – Edward A. Roope, 84, died Sunday, July 28, 2013, peacefully at the Gorham House, with his family by his side. Edward was born March 22, 1929, in Presque Isle, son of the late Margaret and Robert Roope.
Edward grew up on his family’s farm in Presque Isle and graduated from Presque Isle High School. Edward was a dedicated father and husband. He had a very strong work ethic, working as an engineer for Aroostook Valley Railroad for 10 years, then owning his own electrical business as a master electrician for almost 30 years. Edward enjoyed spending time with his family, being outdoors, fishing and hunting.
Edward is survived by his eight children, Gretchen of Hayden, Ala., Dorothy of Toponas, Colo., Lynn of Encinitas, Calif., Patricia of Hayden, Ala., Stephen of New York City, Kathy of Steep Falls, Patrick of El Cajon, Calif., and Jason of Biddeford; eight beloved grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, William Roope. He will also be remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He was predeceased by the love of his life, best friend and wife, Sue L. Roope; two sisters, Dorothy Gott and Jean Barker; and three brothers, Keith Thompson, Donald Thompson and Robert Roope.
Relatives and friends may call 11 a.m.-noon Wednesday, July 31, at Duncan Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle, where funeral services will be held noon with Rev. Larry Palmer officiating. Interment will be at Southside Cemetery, Mapleton.
