NEWBURGH – Robert A. Young, 87, passed away Aug. 10, 2013, surrounded by his family at a Bangor health care facility. He was born April 4, 1926, in Brooks, son of Eben and Florence (Colson) Young.
Robert served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the service he moved to Newburgh and married Zelma Ward. Robert worked in the sheet metal business for Bangor Roofing and Sheet Metal for 10 years before starting his own business in Newburgh, Young’s Sheet Metal, in 1958. He was a member of Archon Masonic Lodge No. 75 A.F. & A.M., Dixmont. During his life he enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing and music. Music and dancing were always important to him, and he loved to play the drums. Robert’s love for his wife and children was unconditional and he will always be remembered as a loving, husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Zelma of Newburgh; daughter, Cindy Corbett and her husband, Michael, of Brewer; daughter-in-law, Collette Young of Newburgh; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Robert was predeceased by his son, Wayne in 2006; grandson, Chad Wayne Young in 1990; two brothers, Harland and Edward; and sister, Evelyn Cook.
Family and friends may call 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. At the conclusion of the visitation a funeral service with military honors will be held 6 p.m. Private interment will be in the family lot at Knowlton Cemetery, Newburgh.
