BREWER – After 82 years of life on this earth, George Fidler was ushered suddenly into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Aug. 15, 2013. He was born into a dairy farming family Dec. 13, 1929, in Duanesburg, N.Y.
He served in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic at Dow Air Force base in Bangor and Austin, Texas. He was married in Bangor to his wife, Marilyn (Ramsey) Fidler, in 1955. They were happily married for 58 years. He was the owner/operator of George Fidler’s Garage for about 40 years. He was a member of Bangor Baptist Church and Gideons International. He was an aviation enthusiast and enjoyed gardening, carpentry, building things and could fix almost anything.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Henderson and her husband, Rob; his daughter, Lori Fidler; and his daughter, Terry Shuford and her husband, Tom. He is also survived by two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Fidler of Summit, N.J.; one sister, Dora Humphrey of Esperance, N.Y.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Bangor Baptist Church, 1476 Broadway, with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Mick officiating. Following the service the family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the church fellowship hall. A committal service with military honors will take place following the reception at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
