OGUNQUIT, Maine — Two York Beach firefighters were injured Monday while responding to a laundry room fire at the Your Body Works spa at 20 Shore Road.

According to Ogunquit police, one had a broken arm and another had a nail through his knee.

“They’ve both been treated and released,” Assistant Chief Corey Hathorne said Monday afternoon.

Hathorne said both firefighters, who he declined to name, were part of an eight-man crew sent on a truck to respond to the fire.

Route 1 was closed for more than two hours before reopening, and Shore Road was expected to remain closed to traffic for some time.

Your Body Works owner Bev Cuthbertson said of her business, “It’s gone.”

Cuthbertson said no one had used the laundry room at the business since last night, but that an employee arriving this morning was in the building when the fire broke out.

Officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“What a way to start the day,” Cuthbertson said.

The fire disturbed early morning traffic and prevented some people from getting to or opening nearby businesses.

The Ogunquit Police Department kept people up to date on road closings, alternate routes and the fire through its Facebook and Twitter accounts throughout the morning.

Fire departments from Wells and York were called in for mutual aid.
