DEXTER – Robert E. Crawford, 81, died Aug. 24, 2013, at his home in Dexter. He was born Feb. 12, 1932, in Augusta, the son of Harold and Blanche (Watts) Crawford.
He served in the U.S. Air Force for two years. After the service, he worked for Bangor Hydro and Electric Company for 38 years, retiring as superintendent of diesel and hydro power production.
Robert was very involved in community affairs. He was Past President of the Dexter Historical Society, Past President of Dexter Lakes Association, and Past President of the Dexter Water Board. He also oversaw many of the recent renovations of the Abbott Memorial Library, following a family bequest.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Retha T. Crawford of Dexter; a son, Darrell Crawford and his wife, Kathryn, of Eddington; a granddaughter, Amy Clement and her husband, Scott, and their daughter, Allyson, of Hampden; a grandson, David Crawford of Brewer; a brother, Charles Crawford and his wife, Barbara, of Beverly, Mass.; a sister, Donna Lagasse and her husband, James, of Dexter; and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was predeceased by two daughters, Tammy and Kathy.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter, followed by a reception at the Knights of Columbus Hall. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the charity of your choice.
