Barbara M. Allen

BREWER – Barbara Marie (Tanaka) Allen, 70, passed away peacefully Aug. 26, 2013, at a Bangor hospital, after a brief illness. Barbara was born Oct. 20, 1942, in Elmira, N.Y., the daughter of Armond and Josephine (Olszowy) Tanaka.
Barbara worked at Bangor Savings Bank for more than 25 years. She was a faithful member of St. Teresa’s Parish where she also served as an Eucharistic Minister. She loved quilting and was a dedicated member of the Pine Tree Quilters Guild. She also greatly enjoyed her sorority, Beta Sigma Phi, Maine Zeta Master Chapter.
She is survived by her four children, Richard Allen and wife, Aileen, of Johnstown, Pa., Robert Allen and wife, Karen, of Sanford, Randall Allen and Jantha Henry of Old Town, and Mary McGowan and husband, Kevin, of Brewer; siblings, Theresa Juster and husband, Harlan, Nancy Cross and husband, Doug, John Tanaka and wife, Mary Ellen, and Mike Tanaka and wife, Ellen; her beloved grandchildren, Joshua and Julia Allen, Andrew and Aaron Allen, and Caroline and Nicholas McGowan. Barbara was predeceased by her parents.
Family and friends may visit 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, South Main Street, Brewer. A time of fellowship and refreshments will be immediately afterward in the church center. Burial will be at a later date at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Elmira, N.Y.
