HOULTON – Laverne E. Stewart, 85, went home to be with her Lord, Aug. 26, 2013. She was born Nov. 22, 1927, in Hodgdon, the daughter of Allen and Olive (Damen) Adams.
Laverne was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She found out early in her Christian walk that her gift was caring for others, whether it be cleaning, doing errands, taking others to their appointments or sharing her baked goods with her neighbors. She gave freely of what she had – time, resources and compassion.
Laverne leaves behind her children, Donna (Stewart) Lebel and husband, Ernie, of Portland, Brenda (Stewart) Dunlop and her husband, Fred, of Linneus, Paul Stewart and his wife, Linda (Bates), Kevin Stewart all of Hodgdon, and Danny Stewart of Littleton; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Clifton H. Stewart in 1996; and was the last surviving sibling from a family of two sisters, Evelyn (Tracy) Adams, and Iris Adams; three brothers, Steven, Kenneth and Wesley Adams; and her grandson, Jeff Dunlop.
Jesus said “I am the resurrection and the life, he that believeth in me though his were dead yet shall he live.” John 11:25 Laverne, mother, grandmother and friend, you will be missed.
Her family would like to thank the caring staff at Gardiner Health Care Facility and Houlton Regional Hospital. Also the Rev. Wayne Robertson and sisters and brothers in Christ at the Houlton Wesleyan Church. Thank you to her many friends and neighbors who visited and sent flowers. God bless you all.
Friends may call 2 p.m. until the time of memorial service held at 3 p.m. Friday, at Houlton Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Wayne Robertson officiating. Interment will be at Hodgdon Cemetery. Gifts may be made in Laverne’s memory to the Ronald McDonald House; or the Houlton Wesleyan Youth Center, care of Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park St., Houlton, ME 04730.
