PRESQUE ISLE – Isabelle Mae Nehring, 86 years, died on Sept. 1, 2013, at Leisure Village Apartments, Presque Isle. She was born March 16, 1927, in Blanchard, N.D., daughter of Hazel (Webster) and H. Ralph Hoffman.
Isabelle attended schools in North Dakota and received a B.S. degree from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. She married Melvin Emmett Nehring, Aug. 27, 1947. They resided in Grand Forks, N.D.; Laramie, Wyo.; Sutton, N.D.; Calexico, Calif.; and in 1956 moved to Fort Fairfield where Melvin was transferred as a Border Patrol agent. She taught in ND and CA, and continued teaching at Fort Fairfield High School for 23 years. She earned an M.Ed degree from the University of Maine at Orono in 1968 and retired in 1982.Isabelle was an active member of the United Parish (UP) Church of Fort Fairfield and was a past president of the UP Women’s Club; an Order of the Eastern Star, Lunar Chapter in Presque Isle member; a Past Matron of Good Will Chapter of Fort Fairfield; a member and past president of Delta Kappa Gamma International, Delta Chapter; and a secretary of the Fort Fairfield Arbor Committee. She enjoyed life – playing the piano and organ, sewing, gardening, and walking. She was a very giving person, baking bread, desserts, and meals to share with friends and family. An optimist, Isabelle had a smile for everyone and quick sense of humor. She will always be remembered for her engaging spirit and concern for others.
Her family wishes to thank the staff at Leisure Village, who cared for her as an extended member of their family, and the caring healthcare providers who helped her at TAMC, Mars Hill, and Presque Isle Skilled Nursing Facilities, and the Visiting Nurses of Aroostook. In addition, they would like to thank Dr. Wood for the medical care he provided throughout her life.
Mrs. Nehring was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Melvin. She is survived by a daughter, Odette, son-in-law, Harry Taylor, and their daughters, Jessica and Erin, who reside in Essex, Vt.; a son, Mark, and daughter-in-law, Pamela Nehring, and their sons, Evan, Thomas, and Colby, who live in Damascus, Md.; a daughter, Anita, who lives in Dover, N.H.; and a sister, Rilla Miller, living in Wimbledon, N.D.
Friends may call noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, at United Parish Church, 4 Church St., Fort Fairfield, where a memorial service will be conducted at 12:45 p.m. by the officers and members of the Order of the Eastern Star, Lunar Chapter, Presque Isle. The funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Church with the Rev. Diane Langworthy officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of Continued fellowship with refreshments will take place at the church reception area, after the interment service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mrs. Nehring to the United Parish Church Memorial Fund, care of Jane Hunt, 15 Fisher St., Fort Fairfield, ME 04742 or the American Heart Association / American Stroke Association, Founders Affiliate, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005. Envelopes will be available at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield.
