BRUNSWICK, Maine — A local 91-year-old woman was seriously injured Wednesday evening in a fire at 14 Beech Drive.
Deputy Chief Don Koslosky of the Brunswick Fire Department said crews were dispatched after receiving a LifeLine report shortly before 6 p.m.
Koslosky said smoke was spilling from the garage, as well as out the front door.
The fire reportedly was knocked down quickly, with minimal damage to the house. Rescue workers took the woman to Maine Medical Center in Portland to be treated for severe burns.
Koslosky declined to release the woman’s name.
The woman lived alone, according to a news release from the police department.
Capt. Matt Barnes of the Brunswick Fire Department said two other people in the house tried to assist the woman and another neighbor suffered minor burns when he also tried to help.
A call to the state fire marshal’s office wasn’t immediately returned Thursday morning.
