BANGOR, Maine — A member of the Harlem Globetrotters will kick off “Globetrotter Week” in the city with a .7-mile dribbling trek from the Penobscot Bridge to All Saints Catholic School, the team announced Thursday.
Jet Williams will showcase his dribbling and spinning talents, bouncing and spinning the team’s trademark red, white and blue basketball across the Penobscot Bridge from Brewer to Bangor, and up State Street to the school.
Williams, who will be on the bridge’s pedestrian walkway, is expected to start his walk around 12:30 p.m. Monday, with an estimated arrival of 1 p.m. at the school.
The walk will culminate with a pep rally hosted by the All Saints school where Williams will speak about bullying.
“Globetrotter Week” will include multiple anti-bullying events throughout the state, leading up to the team’s two games at the Cross Insurance Center on Sept. 20 and 21, which will mark the grand opening of the arena.
Both games tip off at 7 p.m., and tickets are available at www.harlemglobetrotters.com or at the arena box office. Clinics will be offered both days at 1 p.m., and tickets can be purchased at the team website or the Cross Center.
Williams’ journey across the bridge adds to a list of “bridge arrivals” by the team, which includes dribbling exhibitions across the Brooklyn Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge, Philadelphia’s Ben Franklin Bridge and the Key Bridge in Washington, D.C.
