OLD TOWN – Norma Peterson McAllister, 85, died peacefully following a period of ill health, with family by her side Sept. 13, 2013, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Jan. 17, 1928, in Baileyville a daughter of Peter and Phyllis (Seamans) Peterson.
She graduated from Calais Academy, class of 1945 and then attended Farmington Normal School for a year, before attending beauty school in Bangor. She worked at several beauty salons in Newport, Bangor, and Old Town until she and her husband decided to start a family. While the children were growing up, they spent many summer vacations at Cathance Lake in Cooper. In 1984 they purchased their camp on Upper Cold Stream Pond, Big Narrows, Lincoln, and enjoyed many gatherings with family and friends over the years. She enjoyed knitting, doting on her husband, and baking bread. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Willard “Mac” McAllister; a son, Peter McAllister and his wife, Sue, of Rome; three grandchildren, Melissa Commeau of Milford, Michael McAllister of Weeks Mills, and Kenn McAllister of Windham; three great-grandchildren, Noah Ray Thibodeau, Hollie Rose McAllister and Charli Grace McAllister; a brother, Forest “Foddy” Peterson and his wife, Theresa, of Richmond, Va.; sister, Muriel Frye of Lancaster, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Jane in 2002.
A graveside service will be conducted 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Milford Cemetery.
