JONESBORO – Mazie Helen (Porter) Schencks was born Aug. 17, 1926, on Mount Desert Island, to Clyde and Gladys (Braley) Porter. She passed away Sept. 5, 2013, in Ellsworth, at the age of 87.
Mazie worked over 20 years as a bookkeeper for Rier Motors in Machias. She won several awards with General Motors during that time. She was an avid player of the newspaper jumbles and won $500 in a contest sponsored by the Bangor Daily News. She was the President and Secretary – Treasurer of Sunrise Wheels, a Good Sam camping club. She was a communicant of the Jonesboro Union Church. Mazie enjoying traveling and camping with Pa, as well as knitting, crocheting and embroidery. She loved spending time with her family, especially during holidays and special occasions.
Mazie was predeceased by her husband, Edward C. Schencks Sr.; her parents, Clyde and Gladys Porter; her sisters, Marion Roberts and Lillian Norwood; her brothers, Theodore, Lawrence, and Raymond Porter; her sisters-in-law, Gertrude Carver, Helen Jordan, Alberta Grant, and Nora Schencks; and her brothers-in-law, William Jr. and Frazure Schencks. She is survived by her brother, William and wife, Barbara Porter, of Massachusetts; her sisters-in-law, Betty Redimarker of Addison, Vertie Blackburn of Georgia, Lila Schencks of Kennebec, and Melba Schencks of Oklahoma; her brother-in-law, James and wife, Annie Schencks, of Jonesboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mazie (Porter) Schencks is survived also by her daughter, Sharon and husband, Larson Alley Jr., of Jonesboro; her son, Edward Schencks Jr. and Hilda Lynch of Buxton; grandchildren, Paul and wife, Heidi Alley, of Cushing, Mark and wife, Donna Alley, of Jonesboro, and Kevin and wife, Rebecca Alley, of Boothbay; great-grandchildren, Katherine and husband, Brandon Demmons, Sarah and husband, Nathan Warner, and Virginia, Brenna and Kyle Alley; stepgrandchildren, Shane and wife, Valerie Renshaw, Matt and wife, Donna Renshaw, and Tina Renshaw; great-great-grandchildren, Emily and Nathan Warner Jr.; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Amber and husband, Carl Farrar, Alex and Breanna Renshaw.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Rose Hill Cemetery, Jonesboro. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jonesboro Union Church, P.O. Box 64, Jonesboro, ME 04648.
