SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — South Portland police have taken two people into custody following an alleged stabbing that occurred in the early morning hours Thursday at 1478 Broadway.

According to a Thursday morning news release issued by the South Portland Police Department, a 42-year-old woman was discovered by officers at the Broadway location with one stab wound to her leg at approximately 1 a.m. Thursday.

The victim was evaluated by rescue personnel, treated and released without visiting a hospital, according to police.

The suspect in the stabbing, along with others who were present during the alleged crime, had fled, but officers located them near the scene, the police release stated.

After an investigation, Alanna Derrig, 20, of Portland was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, violation of conditions of release and receiving stolen property, according to police.

Another male at the location — Raymond Lester, 27, of Portland — was also arrested on two felony warrants charging failure to appear in court to answer charges of forgery and theft by receiving stolen property, police said.

The incident is still under investigation and more charges may be forthcoming, according to police.
