Bangor Hydro Electric Co. workers restored electricity to almost 9,000 customers by Sunday afternoon after a downed tree knocked out power for most of the day, officials said.

Susan Faloon, a spokeswoman for Bangor Hydro, said that 8,952 outages were reported in the state — 8,938 in Hancock County and 14 in northern Penobscot and Piscataquis counties.

Workers restored power to all but 11 customers in Lincoln by 3 p.m. By 6 p.m., Bangor Hydro’s website showed only scattered outages around the state, none connected to Sunday morning’s incident.
