NORRIDGEWOCK – Leonard Basil Stymiest, 94, passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, with his family surrounding him at Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington. He was born Sept. 11, 1919, in Howe Brook, a son of the late Phinehas and Jenettner (Hunt) Stymiest.
Leonard was a gentle, kind loving man who was genuinely loved by all of his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His biggest pleasure was the children in his life. Leonard served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945. He had a fond love of music and even was a member of a country band. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating.
Leonard is survived by his wife of 72 years, Ina (Leathers) Stymiest; three children, Beverly and spouse, John Campochiaro, of Florida, Gail DeGraff of Norridgewock, and Terrance Stymiest of Waterville; a brother, Omar and wife, Celia Stymiest, of Florida; and a sister-in-law, Erma Robinson of Vassalboro. He also leaves seven grandchildren, John Jr. and wife, Tammy, Michael Campochiaro and friend, Kitty, William DeGraff Jr., Maureen and husband, Trever Tardiff, Mark DeGraff, Travis Stymiest, and Shalina Stymiest, seven great-grandchildren, Brandon, William III, Mark Jr., Maxwell, Britni, TJ, and Hayden; as well as special nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Visitation for Leonard will be held at 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm St., Waterville. A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Veilleux Funeral Home, followed by committal prayers at Howard Cemetery, Winslow.
