HAMPDEN – Charlene M. Morse died Oct. 4, 2013, in a Bangor hospital surrounded by family and friends. She was born Jan. 31, 1927, in Abbott, the daughter of Earle McSorley and Dorothy (Harmon) Boynton.
Charlene attended Hampden Academy and Bangor High School, after which she was employed by the Hampden Country Club and the Hampden Telephone Company. In 1949, she met the love of her life, Laurence Henry Morse, and married him in 1950. Charlene spent her life in devotion to her family and neighbors, and to the Grange, serving the Newburgh Grange in several offices including Master from 1959-1965. She went on to hold office at the Pomona level and as the State Director of the Junior Grange. Charlene also enjoyed, bowling quilting and crafts, teaching these skills to younger children when possible.
In addition to her parents, Charlene was predeceased by her brothers, Earle and Wendell McSorley. Surviving her, in addition to her husband, are her sisters, Marilyn (McSorley) Campbell, and Brenda (Boynton) McCown and partner, Edward Lord; daughters, Marsha (Morse) Burr and husband, Richard, of Carmel, and Renae (Morse) Misner and her husband, J.T., of Waterville; grandchildren, Michael Burr and wife, Kari-Ann, Marcie (Burr) Barbarula and husband, Brad, Morgan Burr, and Benjamin, Alexander and Kelsey Misner; and great-grandson, Waylon Burr. Others including sister-in-law, Glennis McSorely; nieces and nephews; and close family friends, Shelia and Thomas Torrey, all join the family in celebrating her life.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9.
