LEBANON, Maine — A tree branch collapsed onto a woman in Lebanon on Thursday morning, according to officials.

The incident, which Lebanon Rescue Assistant Chief Jason Cole classified as a freak accident, occurred shortly before 9:45 a.m. at a Smith Road residence.

The victim, a 30-year-old woman, had a 12-foot tree limb collapse onto her while she was walking her dog, Cole said. The tree limb fell roughly 25-30 feet, breaking upon striking the victim’s head.

The victim was transported to Goodall Hospital in Sanford for treatment of injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

Cole said homeowners and people walking on the streets should be cautious of dead or falling tree limbs during the fall months.
