HALLOWELL – Stephen Michael Frend, 65, passed away Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, with his loving family by his side after a long, courageous battle with heart disease. He was born Aug. 30, 1948, in Phillips, to James R. Frend and Madeline S. Frend.
Steve graduated from Phillips High School and attended Husson University. Steve was married to the love of his life Debbie for the past 16 years. He was a good person and he cared about people. Those who knew him liked him. He dearly loved his wife, Debbie, his girls, Stephanie, Kristin “Katie,” Dorothy “Meg,” Lacie, and Betsy, and his dogs, Buddy and Zippy. He and his lifelong best friend, Alden Smith spent many hours enjoying the woods of Maine. Steve loved life. Steve spent his life in the automobile business. He knew and loved the car business. Over the years, he received numerous awards and recognitions as a result of his knowledge and success. He excelled in every role he took. He had a strong work ethic.
Steve is survived by his wife, Debbie; and his daughters, Stephanie Curless, Kristin Ure-Frend and her partner, Dane Groves, Dorothy Frend, Lacie Clark and her husband, Robert, and Betsy Curtis and her husband, Nicholas. He loved and doted on his grandchildren, Greta and Eliott Ure, Ashton Glockler, Ayden and Cooper Clark, and Hunter, Stella, and Jackson Curtis. He had a special place in his heart for his son-in-law, Kevin Ure. He is also survived by his older brother, Peter Frend of Farmington.
Services will be held noon Saturday, Nov. 2, at First Baptist Church, 4 Franklin St., Hallowell. Visiting hours will be 11 a.m. to the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 6 E. Merrill Road, Lewiston, ME 04240. Arrangements are under the care of Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.
