HOULTON – Robert “Bob” Fournier, 68, passed away suddenly Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013. He was born April 4, 1945, in Houlton, the son of the late Albert Fournier and Rena (Hatfield) Grant.
He was predeceased by his twin brother, Richard Fournier. Bob was a member of the St. Mary’s Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Joan (Mooers) Fournier; children, Richard Fournier of Bangor, and Aimee and David Goff of Smyrna; and loving grandchildren, Natalie and Hailey Fournier of Bangor, and Janelle and Jeremiah Goff of Smyrna. He is also survived by his in-laws, Lester and Marie Drew of New Limerick.
Bob was a 1963 graduate of Houlton High School enjoying his 50th class reunion this past summer. He also spent over 50 years working in the grocery store business, primarily in the produce department, welcoming everyone with either a “Hi Sport” or a “Hi Dear.” His laughter would light up the room and anyone who knew Bob welcomed that warm smile and great conversation. Bob was a dedicated sports fan who loved his Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and NASCAR. He would rise every morning to read the sports section to see how he was doing in his latest sports “pool” or how the local/state teams were doing. As an avid sports fan, one of Bob’s favorite pastimes was watching his grandchildren play in their various sport activities. Bob beamed with joy when he spoke about Natalie and her swimming, Hailey and her cheering, Janelle and her basketball and Jeremiah with his hockey. He would spend hours talking about his grandchildren and their activities. Spending time at Howe Brook was another of his favorite pastimes. He loved playing cribbage all hours of the night and couldn’t wait for his next adventure at hunting camp this fall. Bob was a long time active member of the Houlton Lodge of Elks, serving as “Tiler” for many years and has been with the fraternity for the past 30 years. His favorite activity during the winter was bowling at the Elk’s and ending the year with the annual bowling tournament. He was named Elk of the Year in 1989-1990. Bob was also a member of the American Legion, Meduxnekeag Club and the Houlton Softball League. Bob was blessed to have so many close friends and extended family members in his life. Friends and family were his passion and delight.
Friends may call 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service held 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Dunn Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Tuttle officiating. Interment will be at Saint Mary’s Cemetery.
