Phillips named Texans’ interim coach

Wade Phillips is officially taking over as interim coach of the Houston Texans while Gary Kubiak recovers from an illness that hit him at halftime of Monday night’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.

The 66-year-old Phillips is the team’s defensive coordinator and no stranger to taking over the head-coaching duties on an interim basis. He served in that role in 1985 with the New Orleans Saints and again in 2003 with the Altanta Falcons. His record as an interim coach is 3-4.

Phillips also was head coach of the Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos and Dallas Cowboys. His overall record is 83-66.

Phillips came to the Texans in 2011 after he was fired as head coach of the Cowboys.
