BRADLEY – Comfort, love, and guidance, good times and memories, a special blessing-a Dad is all of these. Edward James Delaware, 75, of Bradley, went home to his Father in heaven surrounded by his family at a Bangor nursing home on Nov. 7, 2013. Edward was born Dec. 7, 1937, in Milford, the son of Otis and Antoinette (Hamel) Delaware.
Edward attended the Bradley Village School and Old Town High School graduating in 1957. He was employed at the Old Town paper mill retiring after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Air National Guard, Maine High School Basketball Hall of Fame, Search “Dad,” CYO Advisor, Boy Scout Master, Farm League Coach, Eucharistic Minister and choir member at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bradley. He loved his family and they loved them. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially at camp on Great Works Stream. After retiring in 2000 he enjoyed many years of camping at Abol Bridge Campground and wintering in Florida with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ann; sons, Edward Jr. and wife, Karen, of Veazie, David and wife, Angela, of Baltimore, and Daniel and wife, Suzanne, of Bradley; grandchildren, Carri Ann Delaware of St. Augustine, Fla., Abigail Delaware of Bradley, Emma Benson Snape of Veazie, David Delaware Jr. of Baltimore, and Angel Nadeau of Florida; great-grandchildren, Preston, Jarrod, Austin, and Blake all of St. Augustine, Fla.; sister, Mary Beal; brother, Sterling Delaware and his wife, Judy, of Bradley; sister-in-law, Cathy Delaware of Jasper, Texas; special cousin, Lois Lenfest; and best friend, Richard Petrie. He was predeceased by his parents, and his brother, Charles “Sonny” Delaware. The family wishes to express special thanks to the folks at Westgate Manor in the Acadia Unit for their loving and compassionate care of Edward, especially Randy and Connie.
There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Bradley, with Father Wilfred Labbe, celebrant. Family and friends are invited to the Church Hall following Mass for continued fellowship. Internment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Bradley. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, 383 US Route One, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074, in Edward’s memory.
