EASTON – Rena, 92, passed away at the Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill on Nov. 10, 2013. Rena was born in Abbott, Aug. 8, 1921, the daughter of Benjamin & Mabel (Tobey) Curtis. She grew up in Easton with her Aunt and Uncle, Leslie and Lela Curtis.
Rena graduated from Easton High in 1938 and married Clarence in 1940. They lived and raised their family in Easton and celebrated 65 years of marriage. Mom stayed at home and raised her six children but also worked picking potatoes, cutting seed, and on the harvester at Bradley Farms. Mom enjoyed life and people, her Saturday breakfast and shopping with the girls was a priority. She loved most sports including the Red Sox but basketball was her true passion from pee wees to the pros. Easton High presented her with a plaque for her devotion to athletics at her alma mater. Rena was a charter member of the Easton Wesleyan Church and rarely missed a service. She was also a member of the Central Aroostook Assoc. for Retarded Citizens and the American Legion Auxiliary. In 2012, Rena was honored by the Maine Health Care Assoc. in their Remember ME Program to honor Nursing Home Residents. Her legacy to her family was her strong faith in God and her love and devotion to her six children, 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Rena is survived by her five sons and their wives, Barry and Gloria, Keith and Esther, all of Easton, Kim and Marilyn of Beverly, MA, Scott and Penny of Houlton and Brent and Edie of Braintree, MA. Also her grandchildren, Jennifer and Eric Nadeau and children, Kaleigh, Bradley, and Rhylee of Presque Isle; David and Erin and children, Evie and Cade of Essex, MA; Kert and Joanne and children, Ethan, Makayla, and Elyse of Rochester, NY; Kendra and JR Polson and children, Chelsea and Jeremy of Woburn, MA; Chad of Easton; Kelly and Chris Miner and children, Ashton and Sarah of Monongahela, PA; Amber and Paul Shomo of Salem,MA; Nathan and Jenny and son, Tedy of LaPorte City, IA; Casey and Phil Quint and daughter, Lela of Ludlow; Caleb and Jerusha of Hampton, NB; and Heidi and David of Braintree, MA. Rena was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Clarence, and her daughter, Sue Carol, as well as her brother, Selden “Spud” Curtis of Milo and her sister, Violet Dean of Orland.
Funeral services will be held noon Friday, Nov.15 at the Easton Wesleyan Church with Reverends Matthew Maxwell and Jason Coffman co- officiating. Friends may call 11 a.m. Friday until time of service at the church. Interment will be at Estes Park Cemetery in Easton. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the interment.
