LEVANT – Charles A. Helfen Jr., 59, died unexpectedly Nov. 13, 2013, at his home. He was born Sept. 8, 1954, in Bangor, the son of Rita F. Helfen and the late Charles A. Helfen, Sr.
Charles grew up in Bangor and was a 1973 graduate of Bangor High School. He also graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in nursing and worked as a registered nurse for several years at BMHI.
Charles is survived by his mother of Bangor; a sister, Ann H. Wheeler of Hermon; a brother, Richard Helfen and his wife, Kathie, of Brewer; nieces and nephews, Ben Wheeler of Hermon, Matt Helfen of Anchorage, Alaska, Erin and Kaitlyn, both of Brewer; and cousins and uncles. Charles will be sadly missed by his four dogs.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ohio Street, Bangor. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor, and a time of fellowship will be immediately afterward at the parish center. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Assoc., 10 Speen St., 2nd Floor, Framingham, MA 01701, or at www.diabetes.org.
