EAGLE LAKE – Conrad Parent, 93, passed away Nov. 14, 2013, at an Eagle Lake health care facility. He was born July 12, 1920, in Eagle Lake, the son of Octave and Anna (Pelletier) Parent.
Conrad attended school up to eight grade, after that he was self taught. He served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation ordnanceman1st class from 1942 to 1945. Soon after his discharge, he married Albertine Paradis having two children, then moved to Connecticut for about three years. He was employed as a machinist and a certified welder. He then relocated to Eagle Lake and was self employed as a blacksmith and fabrication. In 1958 he had a son, after his blacksmith shop collapsed under the weight of snow. He worked for International Paper as a mechanic/welder until retirement. Conrad loved hunting and fishing with his sons and gardening until the ripe old age of 90. He provided for himself and his dog “Nikki” until he went to live at the nursing home in September of 2012. He was a devoted Catholic and was a member of the American Legion in Eagle lake.
He is survived by his two sons, Edgar and wife, Sandra Parent, and James and wife, Crystal Parent, all of Eagle Lake; two granddaughters, Kristy and husband, Jason Jandreau, of Exeter, and Angela and husband, Chad Jager, of Ashton, Iowa; one grandson, Jonathan Parent of Minot; two stepgrandchildren, Brenda Sue and Cameron CJ Currier; four great-grandchildren, Arianna and Paige Jandreau, Noah and Ethan Jager; one sister-in-law, Vi Paradis of Washburn; and two brothers-in-law, Adrian Paradis of Connecticut, and Lionel Paradis of Caribou. In addition to his wife, Albertine Parent, he was predeceased by his daughter, Nancy Cyr; a very dear friend, Estelle Weymouth; seven brothers, Luke, Omer, Ludger, Arthur, Leo, Raoul, and Leonard; and four sisters, Imelda, Irene, Flora, and Marie Rose.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Eagle Lake. Committal services with full military honors will be celebrated at the parish cemetery. Funeral services are being conducted by Daigle Funeral Home, Fort Kent.
