MOUNT DESERT – Ruth W. Watson, 87, died Nov. 15, 2013, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Jan. 25, 1926, in Cape Elizabeth, the daughter of Perley A. and Edith E. (Brown) White.
Ruth was a member of the Tremont Congregational Church in Tremont. She was an active member of the Footloose Friend’s hiking group. Ruth volunteered with Downeast Horizons and Island Connections on Mount Desert Island. She was an avid bird watcher and gardener. Ruth loved making gifts for her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Meredith Ford and her husband, Tony, of Oceanside, Calif.; sons, Clifton E. Watson Jr. and his wife, Janice, of Franklin, Mass., Chandler and his wife, Jean, of Milford, Mass., and Peter and his wife, Jacque, of Lyons, Colo.; and one brother, Ferd White of Wallingford, Conn. She leaves behind 11 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren and twin great-grandchildren on the way. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Clifton E. Watson in January 2012; and a daughter, Andrea Watson in July of 2012.
Visitation will be held 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Tremont Congregational Church, Tremont, with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Buchanan officiating. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, at Riverside Cemetery, Cape Elizabeth.
