MAGNOLIA, Mass. – Wallace E. Doe, 89, died peacefully Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, in the Hunt Nursing Home, Danvers, Mass. He was the beloved husband of Marjorie (Palmer) Doe. Born Nov. 24, 1924, in East Millinocket, he was the son of the late Willis and Agnes (Hersom) Doe.
A graduate of Schenck High, Wallace lived in East Millinocket until he enlisted in the U.S Navy. A World War II Veteran, Wallace served as a Gunners Mate 3rd Class aboard the U.S.S. Haraden (DD585) during the Pacific Campaign. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
Upon graduating from Wentworth Institute of Technology in 1950 with a Bachelor of Technology Wallace began a 40 year long career at General Radio Co. (GenRad) in West Concord, Mass. In 1963 he moved from Auburndale, Mass., to Magnolia, Mass., where he lived for the remainder of his life and raised his three sons. Very active in the community, “Bo” or “Wally,” as friends and family lovingly called him, was a member of the Magnolia Lions Club (King Lion ’80), a Scout Leader of Boy Scout Troop No. 60, and youth baseball coach. He enjoyed playing cribbage as well as tending to his vegetable garden.
In retirement, he went to work at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Beverly Farms for several years. Along with his wife Marge, he enjoyed wintering in Hope Sound and Port Saint Lucie, Fla.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, Wallace is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-laws, Bradley P. and Judith (Knipe) Doe of Gloucester, Mass., Stephen H. and Cathy (Rodgers) Doe of Magnolia, Mass., and Gregory W. and Mary (Parisi) Doe of Gloucester, Mass.; six grandchildren, Christopher Doe and his wife, Kiley Davis, Eric Doe, Daniel Doe, Evan Doe, Matthew Doe, and Tessa Doe; two great-grandchildren, Autumn and Kendall Doe; two brothers, Willis “Lefty” Doe and his wife, Nadine “Dimpy” of East Millinocket, and John Doe and his wife, Carmen, of Millinocket; sister-in-law, Judith (Palmer) and her husband, Albert Marshall, of Glens Fall, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Josephine “Sister” Pritchett; and a brother-in-law, Horace Palmer and his wife, Carolyn.
His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at the First Parish Church, Congregational, 1 Chapel Lane, Manchester, Mass. Visiting hours will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, at Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester, Mass. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
