VERONA ISLAND, Maine — The Penobscot Narrows Bridge will be inspected between Thursday, Dec. 5, and Tuesday, Dec. 10, which likely will result in significant delays for motorists traveling on Route 1, according to a Maine Department of Transportation press release.

The release stated that there will be alternating two-way traffic between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. during the inspection. The bridge will be closed intermittently for up to 45 minutes at a time between 10 p.m. Dec. 5 and 4 a.m. Dec. 6.

“The survey will be performed to ensure the bridge is maintaining its desired design geometry,” the release stated.

The bridge runs over the Penobscot River, connecting Verona Island and the town of Prospect.
