BANGOR – Laurette M. Paradis, 99, died Nov. 29, 2013, at a local nursing facility. She was born Jan. 28, 1914, in Frenchville, the daughter of John I. and Laura (Ouellette) Michaud.
Laurette was the oldest of 15 siblings, five of which passed at a very young age. She helped raise the rest with her mother and father. Laurette received her certificate in professional sewing from her mentor Madame Hilaire Bouchard at the age of 16. When she was 18, Laurette met Phillip Louie Paradis and they were married at the age of 21. After Phillip returned from World War II they moved to Fairfield and started settle their roots, and finally ended up Bangor where they retired. They celebrated 72 years of marriage together.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Germaine and Priscilla; brothers, Raoul, Leo James, Philemon, and Mark. Laurette is survived by her daughter, Joyce Douglass of Bangor; son, Maurice Paradis and wife, Fey, of Fayetteville N.C.; grandchildren, Steve, Cynthia, Scott, Stanley, Shelton, and Pam; brother, Gerald; sisters, Rita and Theresa; and great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 5-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John Catholic Church, 207 York St., Bangor. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Church Parish Hall immediately following the burial.
