BREWER – Marian Mae French, 80, went home to be with the Lord when she died unexpectedly on Dec. 2, 2013, at her home in Brewer. She was born Jan. 24, 1933, in East Corinth, the daughter of Kenneth and Rena (Wheeler) French.
After graduating from Bangor High School, Marian attended Central Bible College in Springfield, Miss., for one year, after which she married and settled in Alabama. In the early 70s, she moved to Florida where she enjoyed a career working for American Automobile Association, AAA. Upon her retirement, she returned home to Maine to be near her mother. It was then that she met and had a special companion relationship with Mr. Paul W. Libby, of Brewer, that continued until his death in 2011. Marian met many dear friends through Paul’s membership in the Anah Shriners and they enjoyed their time spent participating in their many events. Marian loved to cook and garden, and, in fact, had a wonderful vegetable garden just this past summer in her friend’s back yard. She had a beautiful singing voice that she used in serving the Lord, singing in a trio with Dawn McClure Crabtree and Loreen Bender called The Choralettes and singing in the Revivaltime Choir during her time in college.
Marian is survived by a sister, Elsie Rich of Natick, Mass.; a daughter, Vangie Alston (Rick), of Newport News, Va.; a son, Brent Compton (Lisa), of Trussville, Ala.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a niece, a nephew and a host of cousins.
A service honoring Marian’s life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer, where family and friends may visit from 1 p.m. until the service begins. A private burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Souls Harbor Ministries, 1016 Main St., Corinth. Condolences to her family may be offered at www.kileyandfoley.com.
