HEBRON, N.Y. – Marion C. Petrillo, 68, passed away at home, Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, with her husband at her side. Born Jan. 9, 1945, in Cleveland, she was the third child of Wilbur and Coletta Sievers Schaefer.
A graduate of Magnificat High School and Carlow College, Marion became a social worker before marrying the late Paul Jilek and moving to Maine. A devoted stay at home mother, she continued her education and earned her teaching credentials to pursue her life’s passion and was a beloved teacher for many years.
Marion enjoyed cross country skiing, snow shoeing, photography, knitting, crocheting, swimming, gardening, and tending to her little dog, Daisy-Mae. Marion was a dedicated grandmother to her five grandchildren. Over the years, she loved to spend time at the Jilek family camp on Deer Island, NB.
In July 2008, Marion married Edward A. Petrillo and relocated to Hebron, N.Y. Marion and Ed enjoyed traveling and exploring together. They also found immense pleasure in camping in their RV at Lake Champlain during the summers.
Marion was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Wilbur Schaefer Jr. She is survived by her husband, Edward; and her four children, Jennifer DuBois of Sherman, Molly Griffin and her husband, Michael, of Cape Elizabeth, Nicholas Jilek and his wife, Heather, of Etna, and Christian Jilek and his wife, Sally Gee, of La Grande, Ore.; her sister, Elaine Boudreau of Avon Lake, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Desirae DuBois, Benjamin Griffin, Henry Griffin, William Jilek, and Elizabeth Ann Jilek.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 754 Ohio St., Bangor. A celebration of her life will follow. Donations may be made in Marion’s name to the Charles R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital, Glens Falls, NY, 12801. Condolences may be mailed to Maynard D.
