TRENTON – Michael James McFarland, 43, died suddenly Dec. 6, 2013, at a Bangor hospital from complications of a Respiratory Illness. He was born Dec. 16, 1969, the son of James E. and Joyce M. (Hagerthy) McFarland.
Michael loved the sea. He spent many years as a commercial fisherman in ports all over New England. Michael recently discovered enjoyment in kayaking on the ocean. He had many friends and was a kind, giving person with a big heart. His greatest love was his son, Gabriel, who predeceased him on March 4, 2013.
Michael is survived by his parents of Bar Harbor; sisters, Sarah McEachern and husband, Matt; Bethany Reece and husband, Mat; nieces, Ashley and Lindsey McEachern, and Calie and Bailey Reece, all of Bar Harbor; also the mother of Gabriel, Crystal Urquhart-Asbury; a special friend, Hank Dow and all his friends from Bar Harbor Marine. Michael will be especially missed by Lexo, his loyal canine companion.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 11 a.m. – noon, Thursday, Dec. 12, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert, where a funeral service will follow at noon. Spring interment will be at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor.
