Game notes: It’s early, but this marks both teams’ conference opener. The Black Bears, off to their best start since 2007, lost to Fairfield 80-59 Sunday at the Brown Classic. The Hawks, who have struggled thus far, dropped a 65-45 decision Sunday at Boston College. UMaine looks to snap a 17-game losing streak against Hartford, whic is averaging only 49.2 ppg. The Bears’ last win over the Hawks came on Feb. 19, 2005 — when Sharon Versyp was the coach.
