PRESQUE ISLE – Sylvia Weinberg, wife of Alvin Weinberg, passed from this world Dec. 10, 2013, in Presque Isle, after a lingering illness, with her husband by her side. She was born Sept. 7, 1929, at Tewksbury, Mass., the daughter of Samuel and Sarah Brownstein.
Sylvia married Al on Dec. 11, 1949, and they would soon have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Sylvia loved to sing. As a girl, she would take the trolley car in Tewksbury and head for her weekly voice lesson in Boston, and as an adult she continued taking lessons whenever the opportunity arose. She also became a highly respected singing teacher. Sylvia will long be remembered for her lovely soprano voice and fine acting ability. She played starring roles in the local Lions Club musicals, including Camelot, My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music, and was a cast member in almost all the club’s other productions. She was a founding member of the Presque Isle Community Players and sang in many of its dinner theater performances. A 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star Luna Chapter. Sylvia was a very gracious lady and enjoyed hosting meetings and social gatherings in her home.
Sylvia is survived by her husband, Al of Presque Isle; daughter, Rhea Sheerens and husband, Sean, of Portland; and son, Jay Weinberg of Portland. She was predeceased by her parents; and two sisters, Freda and Dorothy.
