ADDISON – Joseph Shirley Alley Jr., 83, died peacefully Dec. 10, 2013, at Courtland Rehab Center with his loving family at his side. He was born in New Castle, New Hampshire, on April 6, 1930, to the late Eulala B. Alley and Joseph S. Alley Sr. of Beals.
Joey enjoyed and spent his life working on the water seining for Herring and digging clams until he was 80. He enjoyed getting good deals on boats and rebuilding them. He was a great fan of racing, being cars, boats, horses or anything that ran. He was affectionately known as Pa by the family children who he adored. He always had a smiling face anytime anyone visited. Joey loved his family dearly as he was loved.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jean Adele Alley; daughters, Mona Taylor and husband, Arthur, and Shelley Leighton; son, Kendall Alley and wife, Paula; grandchildren, Joseph Alley, Jamie and Bruce Sherwood, Jeremy Alley and Holly, Sandy Taylor and companion, Steven, Robin and David Reynolds, Katie and Jason Curtis, Monica and Kevin Reynolds, Julie Oaks and friend, Richard, Jeffrey Alley and Kim, Michael Pardun, Kristen and Joshua Schlaefer, Kaylee Alley and Reginald Oaks Jr.; great-grandchildren, Johnathan and Hannah, Brandon and Jayden, Tabitha and Trevor, Lexus, Olivia and Jackson, Taylor, DeVae and Damon, Jordyn and Noah, Dustin and Keanna, Dakota and Landen, Reese, Shane and Isabelle, and Ashra; stepgrandchildren, Eric, Matthew and Tyler; brother, Richard Alley and wife, Ina; nephews, Shirley Alley and wife, Linda, John Alley and fiancee, Barbara, Broderick Alley and wife, Dwina, and Brian Alley, niece, Joanne and Harry Bishop; many great-nieces and great-nephews. Joseph was predeceased by his daughter, Diane Nutter; son, Leonard Alley; granddaughter, Deedra Alley; one brother, Eben Alley; sister, Arlena Alley; sisters-in-law, Francis Alley and Evelyn Alley; and nieces, Lillian Durkee and Myra Alley.
