DAVENPORT, Fla. – Chester “Chet” Sherrard, 86, passed away in Haines City, Fla., Nov. 22, 2013. He was born Jan. 3, 1927, in Charlotte, to Phillip E. and Mildred A. Sherrard.
He graduated from Calais Academy in 1944. He served in the Marine Corps. In 1962, he formed Chet’s Transport, Inc., and operated the family owned business until 1995. He retired to Florida in 1988. Chet worked at Florida Auto Auction for 20 years after retirement. Chester married Maxine Winters in 1948. Chet and Maxine enjoyed traveling as members of ATA, MTA and CTA. He was an active member of Calais Lions Club and was international Director for Calais District. He was also a member of the Davenport Lions Club.
He was predeceased by his parents; son, Dale Sherrard; sisters; granddaughter, Kara DiPernia; and friend and companion, Ralph Gower. He is survived by children, Cheryl and Bill Keddy of St. Stephen, NB, Canada, Debora DiPernia of Davenport, Lorna and Steven Dalton of Onset, Mass., and Joan Sherrard of West Palm Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Donations may be made to Charlotte Fire Department, Charlotte, ME 04666, in memory of Chet. Services will be in Charlotte in late spring. Oak Ridge Funeral Care Haines City.
