CASTLETON, Vt. — Husson University’s Trevor Butler grabbed an offensive rebound and put up a shot in traffic with less than a second left to lift the Eagles over Castleton State 86-85 in an intense North Atlantic Conference men’s basketball matchup on Saturday.

With Husson trailing 85-84 with time ticking down, Raheem Anderson attempted a baseline jumper but Logan White managed to get a piece of it. The ball missed the rim, but Butler collected it and went straight up for the layup with just 0.6 seconds left.

Husson (8-0) was led by the duo of Butler and Anderson. Butler scored a team-high 19 points to go with nine rebounds while Anderson finished with 17 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Aaron Willis and Phil Leighton added 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Chad Copeland spark Castleton with 22 points.

Green Mountain 74,MMA 58

At Poultney, Vt., Green Mountain College (3-4) rode a 16-point halftime advantage to a 74-58 victory in a North Atlantic Conference men’s basketball game Saturday over Maine Maritime Academy of Castine (1-9).

Green Mountain guard Robert Holloway led all scorers with 22 points.

Tyler Gilson sparked MMA with 10 points and eight rebounds while Garrett LIbby added 12 points and Dylan Price put in 10.

Berkeley 74, UMFK 67

At Gassboro, N.J., Dukens Germain scored 25 points while Vince Richmond put in 20 and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Berkeley (6-5) by UMaine-Fort Kent (3-7) on Saturday.

Fred Sanchez sparked UMFK with 25 points. Mauro Vicic added 11 points and 10 rebounds while Mike McClung contributed 10 points and five rebounds.

Women’s Basketball

St. Joe’s 69, Framingham St. 57

At Standish, Saint Joseph’s (6-2) outlasted Framingham State University (5-5) behind a career-high 15 points from point guard Mackenzie Dufour.

After a first half of 10 lead changes, St. Joe’s steadily built its lead to 15 in the second half.

Morgan Cahill contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds for St. Joe’s w hile Abby Young added 12 points.

Kristen Hoffman paced Framingham with 17 points.

Wentworth 66, UMF 61

At Boston on Saturday, Wentworth Institute of Technology’s Rachael Camara matched a career-high with 19 points, including scoring five consecutive points to snap a 54-all tie with under four minutes remaining, to help the Wentworth (3-5) beat UMaine-Farmington (3-6)..

UMaine-Farmington caps the fall semester with a 3-6 record with the loss, while Wentworth improves to 3-5.

Junior Lindsay Ranquist paced UMF with 19 points, while freshman Kennadi Grover tallied 14 points. Both Ranquist and Grover were 7-of-11 from the floor. Senior Holly Oliver turned a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, and dished out six assists.

MMA 87, Green Mountain 34

At Poultney, Vt., four players reached double digits in scoring to lead Maine Maritime Academy (4-4) by Green Mountain (1-7).

Kari Jones and Cheyenne Malloy each scored 17 points for MMA while Bekah Campbell contributed 16 points and 13 rebounds. Leah Jackson added 13 points while Jillian Perron had nine rebounds and five assists.

Allison Wadsworth paced Green Mountain with 14 points.

Castleton 74, Husson 56

At Castleton, Vt., on Saturday, the Spartans used their defense to get ahead and methodically pulled away in the second half as they beat the Husson Eagles of Bangor.

Castleton shot 43.3 percent from the floor and an impressive 18-for-20 from the charity stripe as the team improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the North Atlantic Conference. The Eagles shot just 33.3 percent from the field and connected on only 3 of 17 shots from beyond the arc as they dropped to 3-3 and 2-2 in conference action.

The Spartans outrebounded Husson 47-33, including a career-high 14 boards from senior Liz Douglass. Meghan O’Sullivan led the team with 20 points and three rebounds.

Chandler Guerette paced MMA of Castine with 15 points and had three assists, three steals and two rebounds. Rebecca Young added 12 points and four rebounds.

Apprentice 75, UMPI 57

At Presque Isle on Sunday, Apprentice (7-3) used multiple pressure defenses to cause 22 turnovers and 23 points off those miscues to hand UMaine-Presque Isle (7-1) its first loss as the Owls were the last unbeaten team in USCAA Division I entering the game.

Courtney Collins came off the bench to tally a game-high 21 points for the Builders of Newport News, Va.

Point guard Darby Toth scored 15 for the Owls, while Olivia McNally and Amanda Hotham added 12 points each.
