ELLSWORTH, Maine — Residents arrived home Friday evening to find that three handguns and “quite a bit of cash,” were missing, according to Lt. Harold Page of the Ellsworth Police Department.

Page said there was no sign of forced entry at the Park Street home and there were no suspects as of Monday morning.

The residents told police that when they arrived home they noticed loose change lying on the stairs, which hadn’t been there when they left. They checked their belongings and found that the guns and money were missing.

“That’s the first burglary in that neighborhood — well, that I can remember,” Page said.

The police are speaking with neighbors and firearm dealers in an effort to find more information about the burglary.
