NEWPORT, Maine — Fire investigators have determined a faulty electric heater caused a fire that damaged a Newport apartment building over the weekend.
Sgt. Tim York of the state fire marshal’s office said Monday morning a heater that was too close to furniture was the culprit for the blaze at 99 Elm St.
The Saturday fire drew crews from three towns shortly before 7 a.m.
No injuries were reported in the blaze and the American Red Cross is aiding tenants who were affected.
No charges are expected to be filed.
