DEXTER – Evelyn R. “June” Merrifield, 87, passed away Dec. 23, 2013, at Dexter Health Care after a lengthy illness.
June was born May 10, 1926, one of 12 children of Leroy and Nellie Rolfe, and was the last surviving member of that family. June left school early due to her mother’s failing health and was a substitute parent to many of the younger brothers and sisters. She continued her education on her own, home schooling herself and was blessed with an analytical mind and much common sense. She was an inspiration to all of her extended family.
June wed Vernard H. Merrifield on March 27, 1947, and they joined for 66 years of working together side by side, forging a very nice life and many happy memories for themselves and their family. June was an incredibly talented, loving and creative person, and had many artistic pursuits. She leaves much of herself behind in artwork that will live on. She also loved all creatures great and small and in earlier times was an accomplished outdoorswoman.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Vern of Dexter is a son, Elden Merrifield and his wife, Nancy, of St. Albans; and a daughter, Cheryl Orcutt and her husband, Larry, of Deere Isle.
At her request, any future services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to an Alzheimer Support Organization nearest you. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal, Dexter. For an online guest register, go to www.CrosbyNeal.com.
