VEAZIE – Selden J. Martin, 91, formerly of Hartland, died peacefully on Monday, December 30, 2013, at Kindred Care Westgate in Bangor under the loving care of staff there. Staff from Hospice of St Joseph also assisted with loving care. Selden was born on February 2, 1922, in Hartland, Maine, the son of Ervin and Vivian (Cookson) Martin.
He graduated from Becker College in 1941. He proudly served our country in the United States Army Air Force during World War II in the European Theater. He married Virginia Wheeler on June 26, 1946, and they shared 67 wonderful years of marriage. Selden was an avid outdoorsman. He was a private pilot who flew into remote ponds to fly fish. He worked for his father as business manager before becoming town manager of St Albans and then Pittsfield. He later worked for E J Prescott of Gardiner and then George A Caldwell Pipe & Fittings of Waldoboro.
He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Martin of Veazie; his children, Karoldene Barnes and her husband, Joseph, of Veazie, Dawn Madeiros and her husband, Dennis, of Cape Coral, Florida, Shelley Drillen and her husband, Laughn, of Brewer, Selden Martin III (Jim) and his wife, Robin, of St Albans, Stephen Martin and his wife, Colleen, of Pittsfield and Stanton Martin and his wife, Rachel, of Hartland; grandchildren, Erika Madeiros, Kellie Bresnahan and husband, Brian, Ian Madeiros and wife, Pochuen, Kory Martin and fiancé, Amy Bennett, Bradley Martin, Lon Drillen and Nicholas Martin and wife, Nicole; great granddaughters, Claire, Piper and Fiona Bresnahan; Lauren Lancaster and Carli Martin; and great grandson, Blake Madeiros; his brothers, Gerald Martin and wife, Pat, of Hartland and Raymond Martin and wife, Beverly, of Hartland.
