ELLSWORTH – Grace Ellen Sinclair, 92, died January 1, 2014 at an Ellsworth nursing home. She was born Aug. 18, 1921 in Surry, the youngest daughter of Greenleaf E. and Emily G. (Billington) Sinclair. Grace was born in Surry and a longtime resident.
She was a personal care attendant caring for others until the end of their lives including her father and her aunt, longtime Surry teacher Myra Billington and many others. Grace was an active member of the Surry Baptist Church, Surry Historical Society, Hancock Pomona Grange #13, Courtland Rehab and Living Center Volunteers and others.
She is survived by nieces, Priscilla (Torrey) Hawkins, Janet (Torrey) Glidden; nephews, Kenneth Torrey, Clifford Torrey, Roger Torrey and Lawrence Sinclair; and by three generations of great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Clara Torrey and Harvard Sinclair; nieces, Elizabeth Torrey and Helen (Sinclair) Frost.
Because Grace understood their hard and often unappreciated tasks, she and her family would like to offer a special thank you to Ellie MacAlpine and all the other employees of Collier’s Rehab and Nursing for their excellent care and friendship.
At Grace’s request no memorial services will be held. Interment will at the North Bend Cemetery, Surry in the spring. As an avid reader Grace especially appreciated the following poem: Play your part
Today is your day and mine, The only day we have; The day in which we play our part. What our part may signify in the great world we may not understand. But we are here to play it, and now is our time. Play Your Part. David Starr Jordan (founder of Stanford University 1851-1931).
Arrangements by Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. Condolences may be expressed at www.jordanfernald.com
