EBEEMEE TOWNSHIP – Dr. Paul E. Monroe Jr., 66, beloved husband of Janean (Sentenne) Monroe, died peacefully Jan. 6, 2014, at his home. He was born April 11, 1947, in Akron, Ohio, the son of Paul E. Sr. and Wilda (Springer) Monroe.
A U.S. Navy veteran, Paul did his undergraduate work at Florida State University and earned his Optometric Physician Degree at Southern College of Optometry. He had practiced in Punta Gorda, Fla., for 35 years before retiring to Maine. He served as a County Commissioner for Charlotte County, Fla., and at one time ran for the Florida State House of Representatives. Throughout his lifetime he was an avid scholar, committed to furthering his education, as he loved to learn through reading, studying, teaching and most of all exploring. Paul was a loving husband, a supporting father, a caring grandfather and an enduring friend to many. He was one of a kind!
Paul is survived by his wife, Janean; five sons, Paul Monroe III and his wife, Cheryl, Jason Monroe and his wife, Victoria, Michael Burk and his wife, Jennifer, Matthew Burk and his wife, Tina, and Jonathan Burk and his wife, Veronica; 14 inspired grandchildren; and his sister, Janet Troha.
