ROCKLAND, Maine — Two people were charged Thursday following a police investigation into heroin trafficking.
Zachary Clarke, 30, listed by police as a transient, was arrested and charged with aggravated furnishing of heroin, according to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency. The charge was elevated to Class B felony because Clarke has a 2009 conviction for trafficking cocaine in Sagadahoc County, according to MDEA.
Katie Matthews, 26, of Camden was issued a summons for felony possession of heroin.
Clarke was arrested and Matthews summoned after members of the MDEA, Rockland police, and Maine State Police obtained a search warrant and searched a Camden Street residence on Thursday afternoon around 4. Fifty-six bags of heroin, drug paraphernalia, and a useable amount of marijuana were seized by agents.
The value of the drugs was estimated at approximately $1,500.
Clarke was taken to the Knox County Jail in Rockland and released on $1,000 bail.
His next court date is Feb 24.
