PORTLAND, Maine — An Auburn man pleaded guilty Monday to a charge of possession of a firearm, according to officials.

Kenneth Sales, 23, faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

According to court documents, Auburn police investigated a possible stabbing report on May 6, 2013, when they found the victim sitting in a car with Sales.

When Sales exited the car, officers found a pistol on the driver’s seat, and Sales later admitting to possessing it. He was prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior domestic violence assault conviction out of Vermont.

Auburn police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives led the investigation.
