FAYETTE, Maine — A young woman was sent to a hospital Thursday morning after a collision on Fayette Corner Road, police said.

Crystal Gatcomb, 18, of Fayette was heading eastbound shortly after 9:30 a.m. when she was struck by a westbound pickup driven by Richard Kilpatrick, 55, of Auburn, according to Chief Deputy Ryan Reardon of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.

Reardon said Kilpatrick was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Morris Springs Road when the collision occurred. Gatcomb could not stop in time, he said.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene, Reardon said.

Gatcomb and Kilpatrick were both wearing seat belts, and Gatcomb was transported by ambulance to MaineGeneral Hospital in Augusta for her injuries, Reardon said. Kilpatrick was not transported but he was summoned for operating on a suspended license.
