OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine — The man whose body was found Monday morning in the waters off Old Orchard Beach has been identified as a 46-year-old Portland man.
The State Medical Examiner’s Office said Kurt Hoffman died from drowning and they classified the death as a suicide, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Tuesday evening in a news release.
Hoffman recently had been staying with friends in Portland, who found a note from him on Saturday saying he did not plan to return, McCausland said.
Hoffman’s body was found by Old Orchard Beach sewage treatment plant workers in a marshy area of Goosefare Brook. The workers saw his body floating past the highwater mark of a brook tributary near a pump station in the Ocean Park section of town, McCausland said Monday.
