SACO, Maine — Saco police arrested a Biddeford man on Thursday afternoon after a traffic stop in which he was allegedly found to be in possession of heroin.

Officers had been requested to be on the lookout for a Buick driven by Steven Bergeron, 52, according to Saco Deputy Chief Jeffrey Holland.

Police had been tipped off that Bergeron’s vehicle was heading into Saco near the Scarborough town line. Sgt. Scott Sicard located the Buick on Industrial Park Road and stopped it, according to Holland.

Before Bergeron was pulled over, the sergeant observed him speeding and weaving across the center line, Holland said.

A canine officer performed a walk around the vehicle and indicated that Bergeron had drugs in his jacket pockets. Packaging material with a powdery substance that tested positive for heroin was located, the deputy chief said.

Additional heroin was found in the car, and Bergeron was placed under arrest, Holland said. He was charged with trafficking in scheduled drugs, he added.

Bergeron was unable to post $500 bail from the York County Jail and remained there Friday.
