SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — A woman escaped major injury Tuesday morning after her car was hit by a tractor-trailer on the Maine Turnpike spur in South Portland, police said.
The crash near Main Street occurred at about 8 a.m., Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said.
The woman’s name was not disclosed.
The woman’s vehicle was struck from behind by a gasoline-hauling rig driven by Frederick Smith of Kennebunk, McCausland said. The impact forced the smaller car into a pickup truck. The car was demolished.
McCausland said Smith told state police he was blinded by the sun. He was not charged in the incident.
